The feature offers a description of its cultivation, uses, and effects in eastern culture, followed by an analysis its medical applications, including its uses as a hypnotic, an anodyne, an atni-spasmodic, and a phrenic. In the mid 19th century, medical interest in cannabis grew in European and American medicine, and it was one of the secret ingredients in many patent medicines, though it fell out of favor by the end of the century. Other articles cover: hydrastis canadensis (golden seal), Pharmaceutic Sugar Coated Pills, Powers and Properties of Veratrum Viride, List of Alcoholic and Hydro-Alcoholic Extracts. Very good, unopened, edge worn, chipped on bottom corner, closed tear to fore edge, light soiling and staining.
